How do I know if I have a wasp nest?

The clearest sign is wasps coming and going from a single point on your property — under the eaves, an air brick, a gap in the soffit, or a hole in the ground. Standalone wasps in the kitchen are usually foragers, not necessarily a nest.

Are wasps and bees the same thing?

No. Wasps have smooth bodies, narrow waists and bright yellow-and-black banding. Honeybees are fuzzier and more golden-brown. We don't treat honeybee colonies — they're protected and we can usually point you to a local swarm collector.

What's the difference between a wasp and a hornet?

European hornets are larger (about twice the size), have more orange or brown colouring, and tend to nest in tree hollows, roof voids and outbuildings. They're treated similarly to wasps but warrant more care.

Should I try to remove a wasp nest myself?

Accepted Answer

Shop-bought sprays are designed for very small, recently-built nests. Established nests can hold thousands of wasps and become defensive when disturbed. The safest approach is professional treatment.

Can wasps come back to the same nest next year?

No. A treated nest is not reused. Each spring, a new queen finds a new site and starts a fresh nest. The same property can be attractive for several years — sealing entry points after treatment helps.

Will the wasps be gone immediately after treatment?

Activity drops quickly, usually within a couple of hours. Some wasps continue returning to the nest for up to 24–48 hours, picking up the treatment as they go in. By the next day there should be very little activity.

Do you treat nests on bank holidays and weekends?

Yes — we work 8am to 9pm, 7 days a week, including bank holidays. Wasps don't take time off, neither do we.

Generally no. Once the colony is dead the nest is harmless. In rare cases — usually for very large late-season nests in warm cavities — there may be a faint odour for a few days which then fades.

What if I find more wasps a few days later?

A small number of returning foragers is normal in the first 48 hours. If you still see consistent activity at the same nest a week later, call us and we'll come back as part of our service guarantee.

Do I need to be home for the treatment?

Accepted Answer

Often no, particularly for external nests in gardens, sheds, eaves and lofts accessible from outside. We'll confirm when you book.
